MiniDiscs were never popular, but for a brief period of the late 1990s and early 2000s, they were my first experience of recording audio out in the wild. I carried my Sony MiniDisc recorder around everywhere, and recorded ambient sounds, concerts, interviews and just about anything I found interesting. I loaded up several dozen with all my recordings. Some ended up being used for live theatre productions and other audio projects, but most ended up in a shoebox. That shoebox remained untouched over several cross-country moves until the spring of 2020. As the world sheltered in place, I transferred my entire collection into a more contemporary digital format. This limited series podcast is a selection of that collection.
